What is Heat Shrink Tubing?

Heat shrink tubing, also known as heat shrink protective tubing, provides insulation protection for wires, cables, and wire terminations. It features properties like high-temperature shrinkage, flexibility, flame resistance, insulation, and corrosion resistance. It is widely used for insulating protection of various wire bundles, solder joints, inductors, and for preventing rust and corrosion on metal pipes and rods.

Heat shrink tubing is made of special polyolefin materials, sometimes also referred to as EVA material, which is soft and elastic. When heated (typically around 125 degrees Celsius), it shrinks and conforms tightly, making it ideal for applications requiring insulation protection, rust prevention on metal components, and corrosion resistance.

Commonly used on wire joints, the appropriate heat shrink tubing is selected and placed over the wire joint. Heat is then applied using a heat gun, causing the tubing to shrink and securely enclose the joint.

Functions of Heat Shrink Tubing:

  2. Protection: Protects against mechanical damage, moisture, chemicals, and corrosion.

Heat shrink tubing can be shrunk using tools such as a heat gun, hot air blower, or heat shrink oven.

Types of Heat Shrink Tubing:

Heat shrink tubing is primarily made of plastics, including PVC, ABS, EVA, PET, etc. It comes in various types such as PVC heat shrink tubing, PET heat shrink tubing, radiation cross-linked PE heat shrink tubing, 10KV high-voltage busbar protection heat shrink tubing, 35KV high-voltage busbar protection heat shrink tubing, and adhesive-lined dual wall heat shrink tubing.
